Intended Learning Outcome The module will provide the following learning outcomes:

  • To be aware of the State of the Art, history and basic concepts related to “The Nexus”
  • To understand the complexity of different Nexus systems and their individual Nexus interlinkages
  • To get an overview on existent qualitative and quantitative tools to assess Nexus systems
  • To be aware of the available governance and policy related measures to solve Nexus conflicts and promote Nexus synergies
  • To identify, conceptualize and assess complex Nexus systems
  • To suggest locally suitable strategies to overcome Nexus conflicts and promote Nexus synergies
Content
  • Introduction to the history and basic concepts related to “The Nexus” and its role in panning and the achievement of the SDGs
  • Concepts and indices needed to monitor Water security, Energy Security and Food Security
  • Individual Nexus interlinkages Water-Energy, Water-Food, Food-Energy and environmental implications
  • Overview on existent qualitative and quantitative tools to assess Nexus systems: e.g. visualization tools, qualitative conceptual tools, models, case studies on applications
  • Overview on Governance and policy related measures to solve Nexus conflicts and promote Nexus synergies, case studies on applications
  • Self study: read relevant papers and discuss in group
  • Group work task: To identify, conceptualize and assess a complex Nexus system and suggest locally suitable strategies to overcome Nexus conflicts and promote Nexus synergies
